Stratiolaelaps scimitus, formally known as Hypoaspis miles, are predator mites recognized for their capacity to hunt and eliminate various pests. These pests include fungus gnats, snake mites, red spider mites, composting mites, and many others. When the mites exhaust their food supply, they perish. They thrive best in areas that are not excessively warm, as they dislike temperatures nearing 30°C.
These mites are harmless to reptiles and do not impact Porcellio laevis or Porcellionides pruinosus species. They may target the young of dwarf woodlice species and springtails, which may require replenishment after treatment. Nevertheless, in many instances, predator mites can be sustained in bioactive enclosures where they will regulate their population according to the food supply.
